A Juneteenth Message: The Power of Action Over Waiting

by Communications Team -

Dear Laurus College Community,

Today, we join the nation in observing Juneteenth. It is a day of celebration, but it is also a day for profound reflection—on history, on freedom, and on the terrible cost of a delayed promise.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day that enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free. This was a full two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

I ask you to pause and truly consider the meaning of that wait.

Imagine a world where your freedom has been legally granted, but that truth is kept from you. Imagine living another 900 days in bondage while others have already begun their new lives. This is not just a delay; it is an unimaginable injustice, a theft of time, hope, and human potential.

Many in our community, who have journeyed from locally and nations across the globe, know what it means to seek a better future. The United States is not where you wait for the American Dream. It's where people dream of coming to act, to build, and to achieve it.

This is where the lesson of Juneteenth and the very soul of Laurus College converge. At Laurus College, we are fundamentally opposed to the idea that anyone’s potential should be forced to wait.

Our entire educational model is designed to be the opposite of that wait. It is built to create what we call equifinality: the principle that no matter where you start, you can reach the same destination of success.

But this isn't just a hopeful theory for us; it is an outcome we actively build through a specific, intentional approach.

  • We practice Educational Heliotropism™, based on the belief that every person, like a plant, naturally turns toward the light of opportunity. Our job is to be that light.

  • We facilitate Behavioral Alchemy, a process where we help you transform the challenges of your past into the strengths that will define your future.

  • We deliver this through VIP²™ model and Swaddled Support Services™, a deep and consistent system of care that ensures you are seen, valued, and empowered—never left to wonder or wait.

These aren't just programs. They are our commitment to action. They are our promise that your journey to a better life starts the moment you begin with us.

On this Juneteenth, we honor the immense resilience of those who endured an unforgivable wait. And we reaffirm our mission: to honor their memory by championing a future where every single person has the support and the tools they need to achieve their promise, without delay.

Sincerely,

Dr. Cheryl Hayek
President, Laurus College
